1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: August 14, 2001 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. <br /> em <br /> SUBJECT: Continuation Agreement Between UNC Hospitals and Orange County for the <br /> Senior Wellness Program <br /> DEPARTMENT: Aging PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> Agreement Jerry Passmore, ext. 2009 <br /> TELEPHONE NUMBERS: <br /> Hillsborough 732-8181 <br /> Chapel Hill 968-4501 <br /> Durham 688-7331 <br /> Mebane 336-227-2031 <br /> PURPOSE: The purpose of this Agreement is to receive $47,910 from the University of North <br /> Carolina (UNC) Hospitals for their co-sponsorship of the Department on Aging's Senior <br /> Wellness Program from July 30, 2001 through June 30, 2002. <br /> BACKGROUND: In 1994, the Friends of the Chapel Hill Senior Center received funding to <br /> implement a Wellness Program at each of the Orange County Senior Centers and rural <br /> community centers. This three-year project, funded by the Kate B. Reynolds Foundation, <br /> ended June 30, 1997. Due to the success of the Program, UNC Hospitals proposed to fund the <br /> Wellness Coordinator position through contractual agreement with Orange County. This has <br /> will continue to maintain existing programs and assist implementing new programs to promote <br /> the health and well being of seniors in the County. The United Way will also continue to provide <br /> operating expense support for this public/private partnership. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: There are no County funds associated with this program. Funding, up to <br /> $47,910 for salary and benefits, for the Senior Public Health Educator is provided by UNC <br /> Hospitals. United Way funds and class fees cover the operating expenses of the program. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends approval of the Agreement renewal <br /> between UNC Hospitals and Orange County for the continuation of the Wellness Program and <br /> that the Chair be authorized to sign the Agreement renewal. <br />
