1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: August 14, 2001 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. g. <br /> SUBJECT: Jail Inspection Report <br /> DEPARTMENT: County Manager PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> Jail Inspection Report Manager's Office.—245-2300 <br /> Sheriff's Letter to BOCC and County <br /> Manager TELEPHONE NUMBERS: <br /> Sheriff's Letter to Robert Lewis Hillsborough 732-8181 <br /> Chapel Hill 968-4501 <br /> Durham 688-7331 <br /> Mebane 336-227-2031 <br /> PURPOSE: To receive the jail inspection report for July 19, 2001, from the North Carolina <br /> Department of Health and Human Services. <br /> BACKGROUND: The General Statutes require the Board of County Commissioners to receive <br /> and take necessary corrective action to the semi-annual jail inspection reports submitted by the <br /> North Carolina Department of Human Resources. The statute further states that the governing <br /> body shall promptly initiate any action necessary to bring jail facilities into conformity to <br /> standards. The report for July 19, 2001, is enclosed for review, and indicates Orange County's <br /> compliance with standards. <br /> The attached letters detail the Sheriffs response to the findings of the report. The Sheriffs <br /> Office and the Public Works Department have collaborated and developed a plan to address <br /> the maintenance and repair issues detailed in the report. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with accepting the report. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board of Commissioners <br /> receive the report. Corrective action is being taken as required. <br />
