Crown Court Hillsborough 732-8181
Chapel Hill 968-4501
Durham 688-7331
Mebane (336)227-2031
PURPOSE: To consider a petition to add Camden Lane and Gloucester Court (in Chapel Hill
Township) and Crown Court (in Eno Township) to the State-Maintained Secondary Road System.
BACKGROUND: Camden Lane, Gloucester Court: Residents of Camden Lane (16 homes) and
Gloucester Court (4 homes) in Camden Place Subdivision have petitioned North Carolina
Department of Transportation (NCDOT) to accept maintenance responsibilities for those roads.
Camden Place Subdivision, approved by the Carrboro Board of Aldermen in September 1990,
contains a total of 24 lots and is located in Carrboro's Transition Area on the north side of
Homestead Road (SR 1777).
Crown Court: Residents of Crown Court (11 homes) in Crown Court Subdivision have petitioned
North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) to accept maintenance responsibilities for
that road. Crown Court Subdivision, approved by the Board in June 1998 as MTK Development
Subdivision, is located on the north and south sides of Yates Road (SR 1563). Crown Court is off
the south side of Yates Road and provides access to 16 lots. (Two private roads were also
approved for MTK Development. Chili Court off the south side of Yates Road serves three lots.
Ritz Court off the-north side of Yates Road serves five lots.
NCDOT has investigated the requests (see attached Secondary Road Addition Reports) and has
submitted the petitions to the Board of Commissioners for its review and approval. The Board must
take an administrative action to approve the petitions to NCDOT in order for NCDOT to accept
Camden Lane, Gloucester Court and Crown Court into the State Maintenance Program.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no direct financial impact associated with this decision item.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Administration recommends that the Board approve the requests to
add the above named roads to the State Secondary Road Maintenance Program.
