Maps Hillsborough 732-8181 <br /> Chapel Hill 968-4501 <br /> Durham 688-7331 <br /> Mebane (336)227-2031 <br /> PURPOSE: To discuss and receive comment on the Orange County 2001 — 2002 Secondary <br /> Road Improvement Program proposed by North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT). <br /> BACKGROUND: General Statutes of North Carolina (NCGS) Chapter 136-44.8 requires that <br /> NCDOT meet with the Board of County Commissioners at a public meeting to present to and <br /> discuss with the board and other citizens proposed secondary road paving projects (Secondary <br /> Road Improvement Program). NCDOT, in compliance with NCGS 136-44.8, has posted in the <br /> county courthouse a county map showing tentative secondary road paving projects and has <br /> published notice of the public hearing in county newspapers (the Mebane Enterprise, The News of <br /> Orange and The Chapel Hill News). <br /> The anticipated 2001 — 2002 allocation for secondary roads totals $ 1,637,402. It includes the <br /> following: <br /> Paving Rural Unpaved Roads (8 road segments - 6.37 miles) $1,270,000 <br /> Paving Subdivision/Residential Unpaved Roads (7 road segments - 1.65 miles) 307,402 <br /> Contingency 60,000 <br /> Total $1,637,402 <br /> The anticipated 2001 —2002 allocation represents a 14.6% increase from 2000 —2001. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no direct financial impact associated with this decision item. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): The Administration recommends that the board hold the public hearing <br /> to discuss and receive comments regarding the 2001 2002 Secondary Road Improvement <br /> Program for Orange County. <br />
