1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: September 18, 2001 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. (b -q <br /> SUBJECT: Resolution of Appreciation —Triangle Land Conservancy and Eno River <br /> Association <br /> DEPARTMENT: Environment and Resource PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br /> Conservation <br /> ATTACHMENT INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> 1) Resolution of Appreciation Barry Jacobs, 732-4941 <br /> David Stancil, ERC Director, 245-2590 <br /> TELEPHONE NUMBERS: <br /> Hillsborough 732-8181 <br /> Chapel Hill 968-4501 <br /> Durham 688-7331 <br /> Mebane 336-227-2031 <br /> PURPOSE: To recognize and thank the Eno River Association and Triangle Land <br /> Conservancy for their work as partners with the County in land conservation efforts. <br /> BACKGROUND: The Triangle Land Conservancy and Eno River Association have long <br /> serves as important land conservation organizations in the County and the Triangle region. <br /> Recently, both organizations have also been important partners for the County in land <br /> conservation efforts through the County's Lands Legacy program. <br /> In particular, the Little River Regional Park and Natural Area project is now hailed statewide <br /> as an example of public-private ventures between local governments and private <br /> conservation organizations. The fundraising of the two organizations and their willingness to <br /> partner in the project helped make possible $889,000 awarded in State and Federal grants. <br /> These additional funds lowered Orange County's cost for purchase of the 391-acre park to <br /> $700 per acre. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: None <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board adopt the attached <br /> resolution of appreciation to Eno River Association and Triangle Land Conservancy. <br />
