Proclamation for Bill of Rights Davin Orange County
The Board considered a proclamation to recognize December 15, 2006 as Bill of Rights
Day in Orange County.
Margaret Misch said that she is concerned about the loss of civil rights and civil liberties
in this day and age with the Military Commissions Act that was just adapted by Congress. She
wonders if there needs to be a new set of resolutions passed in the County to defend persons
against repressive regulations coming down from the federal government. She said that there is
a resident in Carrboro who was whisked away, and she wonders how much that had to do with
new regulations that have been passed since the Patriot Act. Chair Carey assured Ms. Misch
that the federal government was in no way using Orange County government to carry out any
repressive measures.
Chair Carey read the proclamation.
