She said that the OCRS Board feels that the County <br />Commissioners have been diligent in their efforts to gather information that would allow them to <br />make an educated decision regarding emergency services in the County that would provide <br />both excellent service and maintain their fiduciary responsibility to the taxpayers of Orange <br />County. She said that the citizens of Orange County should knave that the Board of County <br />Commissioners cares about their safety and is committed to working with all County emergency <br />organizations to do this in the most cost-effective and efficient manner. The OCRS Board of <br />Directors wishes to thank the County Commissioners for the countless hours they have spent <br />hearing the requests and researching needs. She said that they look forward to working <br />together in the future to ensure that County rescue needs are met in a spirit of mutual teamwork <br />and respect. <br />Commissioner Halkiotis said that no apology is necessary to him. He said that the work <br />that the rescue squad has done over the years has been largely unheralded in many circles, but <br />has not gone unrecognized by the County Commissioners. He said that the County did contract <br />with a group that failed with the study results. All of these things were done in a good faith <br />effort. He said that during election time people say all sorts of things. He said that the County <br />Commissioners are intelligent enough to separate rhetoric from service. He said that he did not <br />perceive that Mr. Daniels was speaking for the rescue squad but for himself. He said that Chief <br />Matthews was in uniform and was voicing his opinion. He respects and appreciates what the <br />rescue squad is doing. <br />Chair Jacobs said that Commissioner Halkiotis speaks for the entire Board of County <br />Commissioners on the work the squad does in the community. He said that none of the County <br />Commissioners took those comments from Mr. Daniels in an adverse way regarding the rescue <br />squad. He thanked the attendees for coming and said that the County Commissioners will try <br />and figure out a way to salvage the work that was done on the study and try to move forward in <br />this budget year. <br />Dan Waugh lives in the Meadow Run Subdivision off Rogers Road. He raised concerns <br />about the landfill on Eubanks Road and the transfer station that may be going somewhere in the <br />community. He said that the Eubanks area has had a landfill for many years, and elected <br />officials have said that there would be no more landfill there after 2009-2010. He is concerned <br />about the possibility of a transfer station in the area. He asked the County Commissioners to <br />consider other sites. He said that he and some of his neighbors would be willing to help in the <br />process. He asked to be included in updates on the process of finding a transfer station site. <br />Chair Jacobs asked Mr. Waugh to give his contact information to the Clerk. He said that <br />the Board was going to discuss tonight the possibility of having a community meeting, but some <br />information came to the Board's attention that the complete picture was not being portrayed in <br />the neighborhood. He assured Mr. Waugh that, before any decision is made about any <br />neighborhood, there will be a public meeting in the neighborhood. <br />b. Matters on the Printed Agenda <br />(These matters were considered when the Board addressed that item on the agenda <br />below.} <br />3. Board Comments <br />Commissioner Gordon reported that she attended the Commission far the Environment <br />Meeting last night. There was discussion about stream buffers, which will be heard at the public <br />hearing on November 20th. The members would like an opportunity to comment on this at the <br />public hearing. <br />Commissioner Gordon said that she was glad to hear that the consultant item on the <br />comprehensive plan was being pulled because the Planning Board is holding a special meeting <br />tomorrow night and this contract and the scope of the work will be discussed. <br />
