fault of the County Commissioners. She said that the OCRS Board feels that the County
Commissioners have been diligent in their efforts to gather information that would allow them to
make an educated decision regarding emergency services in the County that would provide
both excellent service and maintain their fiduciary responsibility to the taxpayers of Orange
County. She said that the citizens of Orange County should knave that the Board of County
Commissioners cares about their safety and is committed to working with all County emergency
organizations to do this in the most cost-effective and efficient manner. The OCRS Board of
Directors wishes to thank the County Commissioners for the countless hours they have spent
hearing the requests and researching needs. She said that they look forward to working
together in the future to ensure that County rescue needs are met in a spirit of mutual teamwork
and respect.
Commissioner Halkiotis said that no apology is necessary to him. He said that the work
that the rescue squad has done over the years has been largely unheralded in many circles, but
has not gone unrecognized by the County Commissioners. He said that the County did contract
with a group that failed with the study results. All of these things were done in a good faith
effort. He said that during election time people say all sorts of things. He said that the County
Commissioners are intelligent enough to separate rhetoric from service. He said that he did not
perceive that Mr. Daniels was speaking for the rescue squad but for himself. He said that Chief
Matthews was in uniform and was voicing his opinion. He respects and appreciates what the
rescue squad is doing.
Chair Jacobs said that Commissioner Halkiotis speaks for the entire Board of County
Commissioners on the work the squad does in the community. He said that none of the County
Commissioners took those comments from Mr. Daniels in an adverse way regarding the rescue
squad. He thanked the attendees for coming and said that the County Commissioners will try
and figure out a way to salvage the work that was done on the study and try to move forward in
this budget year.
Dan Waugh lives in the Meadow Run Subdivision off Rogers Road. He raised concerns
about the landfill on Eubanks Road and the transfer station that may be going somewhere in the
community. He said that the Eubanks area has had a landfill for many years, and elected
officials have said that there would be no more landfill there after 2009-2010. He is concerned
about the possibility of a transfer station in the area. He asked the County Commissioners to
consider other sites. He said that he and some of his neighbors would be willing to help in the
process. He asked to be included in updates on the process of finding a transfer station site.
Chair Jacobs asked Mr. Waugh to give his contact information to the Clerk. He said that
the Board was going to discuss tonight the possibility of having a community meeting, but some
information came to the Board's attention that the complete picture was not being portrayed in
the neighborhood. He assured Mr. Waugh that, before any decision is made about any
neighborhood, there will be a public meeting in the neighborhood.
b. Matters on the Printed Agenda
(These matters were considered when the Board addressed that item on the agenda
below.}
3. Board Comments
Commissioner Gordon reported that she attended the Commission far the Environment
Meeting last night. There was discussion about stream buffers, which will be heard at the public
hearing on November 20th. The members would like an opportunity to comment on this at the
public hearing.
Commissioner Gordon said that she was glad to hear that the consultant item on the
comprehensive plan was being pulled because the Planning Board is holding a special meeting
tomorrow night and this contract and the scope of the work will be discussed.
