He suggested
giving every employee of Orange County government a compact fluorescent bulb. He said that
he changed out all of his bulbs to compact fluorescents and saw a big difference in his electric
bill.
Chair Jacobs volunteered to work with the group once Commissioner Halkiotis retires.
Commissioner Gordon commended the group and echoed Commissioner Halkiotis'
comments. She also commended Commissioner Halkiotis for all of his work with this energy
team and work group.
Commissioner Faushee commended the team and also Commissioner Halkiotis for
being a good coach. She said that it would be good for the County Commissioners to get the
reminder energy cards.
Wayne Fenton said that the energy team also thanks Commissioner Halkiotis.
Chair Jacobs reminded the County Commissioners that they adopted an environmental
responsibility goal for County government before the group was started, but no traction was
made until the Manager recommended a $300,OQ0 increase in expense money for electricity
and fuel. The County Commissioners then decided to save the money by using conservation
measures.
Chair Jacobs said to include the County Commissioners when Wayne Fenton sends
out emails to staff. He also suggested having discussions about haw the energy email address
and the phone number can also be shared with the public. There could even be a "Tip of the
Week" on the phone number about ways of reducing energy.
Chair Jacobs asked for a report at the next meeting how the CNG fueling facility is
going.
Chair Jacobs asked about green power and Wayne Fenton said that his understanding
is that it is a tax incentive where a portion of the payments will go toward green paver. Chair
Jacobs said that he would be glad to discuss this and he wants to know if other governments
are doing this.
11.
