Comprehensive Assessment of Emergency Medical Services 66 <br /> DRAFT REPORT and 911/Communications Center Operations Study <br /> • A Calltaker s primary responsibility is answering 911 and administrative calls coming into the <br /> Center, recording essential information in the computer aided dispatch (CAD) system, and <br /> (ideally)transmitting that information to a Telecommunicator. <br /> • A Telecommunicator's primary responsibility is to dispatch the call to the appropriate agency <br /> and handle on-going responding agency communications & radio traffic. <br /> In Orange County all Telecommunicators have been trained and are certified as "Emergency Medical <br /> Dispatchers" or EMD's. During the course of this study, the Communications Center was operating with <br /> a total allocation of 30 full-time positions, plus the Communications Center Operations Manager. <br /> However, it should be noted that during that time eight of those positions were either vacant (4) or in <br /> training (4) and therefore unavailable for duty.
