C8050-6/01 <br /> DENTAL HEALTH PROGRAM DIRECTOR 31 <br /> GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK <br /> Performs difficult professional and administrative work/managing and <br /> coordinating all activities of the County's public dental program; does related <br /> work as required. Work is performed under general supervision. Supervision is <br /> exercised over subordinate clerical and paraprofessional employees. <br /> TYPICAL TASKS: <br /> Develops, plans and administers the activities of the dental clinic; <br /> Develops current and long range policies, procedures and programs for dental <br /> health service division; <br /> Collaborates on strategy and policy development with other Division Directors; <br /> Serves as staff to Board of Health subcommittee; <br /> Consults with UNC School of Dentistry to coordinate and supervise field training. . <br /> experience for residents, dental students, and dental hygiene and dental <br /> assisting students; <br /> Consults with private dental practitioners to disseminate information on the <br /> division's programs, enlist their participation in projects and to develop a referral <br /> list; <br /> Manages and oversees dental clinics, including dental screenings at daycare <br /> centers and special events such as Apple Chill, Family Fest, LaFiesta Del Pueblo <br /> and the like; <br /> Manages and oversees the Dental Screening, Education and Referral program <br /> for children in grades K-5 at Chapel Hill/Carrboro and Orange County Schools; <br /> Develops division budget, monitors expenditures and makes revenue projections; <br /> Oversees the billing and collection of fees for clinical services; <br /> Supervises, reviews and evaluates the work of subordinates; <br /> Performs related tasks as required. <br /> KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: <br /> Thorough knowledge of the principles, methods and techniques of dental <br /> procedures; thorough knowledge of dental equipment, supplies and x-ray <br /> materials; thorough knowledge of infection control and emergency resuscitation <br /> procedures; thorough knowledge of budgeting, accounting and grant <br /> administration; ability to plan, assign, instruct and supervise the work of <br /> subordinates; ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship <br /> with clients, staff and the general public; ability to organize information and <br /> prepare clear and concise reports. <br /> EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: <br /> Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an <br /> accredited community college with major course work in the dental assistant <br /> program or related field and at least 6 years experience in a dental clinic. <br /> SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS <br /> Possession of Dental Assistant certificate issued by the State of North Carolina. <br /> Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina. <br />
