Internal Service Funds are an accounting device used to <br />accumulate and allocate costs internally among the functions of the County.All County vehicle <br />purchases willoccur through this fund instead of through departments’ operating budgets. The <br />internal service fund centralizesall vehicle purchases, which will increase the effectiveness of <br />vehicle cost and replacement monitoring. <br />As the budget processconcluded, staffinformed the Board of County Commissioners(BOCC) <br />that staffwould bring a final listing of the vehicles that the County proposes to purchasewithin <br />the fund. Attached isthe finalized list of vehicles to be purchased. The list coincides with and <br />outlinesthe vehicles approved in the FY 2012-2013 budget and the amounts to be funded with <br />and without debt financing forthe BOCC’s consideration. The total amount of vehicles to be <br />debt financed will be $640,503, and $54,470 of vehicleswill be purchased with auto property <br />insurance claims funds received through September 30, 2012. The total dollar amount of the <br />vehicles to be purchased will be$694,973. Additionally there is sufficient fund balance that can <br />be considered as an option to purchase the vehicles. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />The financial impact of the purchaseof the vehicle replacement vehicles <br />is $694,973. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): <br /> The Manager recommends that the Board approve the purchase of <br />the recommended vehicles based on the information aboveand the attached documents, and <br />authorize staff to use available funds, fund balance and/or debt financing to purchase the <br />vehicles. <br /> <br />
