Attachment 3 <br />12 <br />Orange Unified Transportation Board <br />PO Box 8181 <br />Hillsborough, NC 27278 <br />Memorandum <br />Date:th <br />September 20, 2012 <br />To: <br />Orange County Board of County Commissioners <br />From: <br />Orange Unified Transportation Board <br />Subject: <br />Comments Regarding the Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Metropolitan Planning <br />Organization’s 2040 Metropolitan Transportation Plan and Comprehensive <br />Transportation Plan <br />th <br />The Orange Unified Transportation Board (OUTBoard) met Wednesday, September 19, 2012 <br />to receive a presentation from the Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Metropolitan Planning <br />Organization regarding the Alternatives Analysis for the DCHCMPO2040 Metropolitan <br />Transportation Plan and Comprehensive Transportation Plan and providethe following <br />comments regarding the Alternatives Analysis: <br />There should be a focusonbuilding a sustainable, economical and workable system that <br />builds upon itself with capital investments to lay the groundwork for future innovation. <br />Encourage theconsideration ofthe larger effects of this plan and that there will be great <br />economic benefits to some elements such as the public transportation projects. <br />The plan should includeprovisions for staggering implementation of services such that <br />bus ridership can help build future rail ridership once the rail projectiscompleted. <br />Support of ongoing coordination between municipalities within the county and with other <br />jurisdictions in the region on all elements of the regional efforts. <br />Suggest choosinga Preferred Option that provides a comprehensive multi-modal system <br />which operates efficiently in the long term and provides the most significant economic <br /> <br />and societal benefits to the County and the region. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
