1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: October 2, 2012 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 5-i <br /> SUBJECT: Efland Phase 2/Buckhorn Sanitary Sewer Scope Expansion Change Order <br /> Approval <br /> DEPARTMENT: Asset Management Services; PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br /> Planning & Inspections <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> 1) August 21, 2012 Board Meeting Jeff Thompson, 919-245-2658 <br /> Abstract Craig Benedict, 919-245-2592 <br /> 2) Change Order#2 Kevin Lindley, 919-245-2583 <br /> PURPOSE: To authorize the County Manager to: <br /> • execute the attached change order in the amount of $219,257.78 related to the <br /> project scope expansion of the additional gravity sewer outfall connection between <br /> the new Brookhollow Road Lift Station and the end-of-life McGowan Creek Lift <br /> Station; and <br /> • execute any future change orders for this project up to an amount not to exceed <br /> $250,000 in total upon County Attorney review and not to exceed the overall <br /> project budget. <br /> BACKGROUND: The Board may recall the update on the Efland Phase 2/Buckhorn Sanitary <br /> Sewer on August 21, 2012 (Attachment 1) that outlined the State's approval of the additional <br /> gravity sewer outfall connection and the Board's subsequent support of this initiative. Change <br /> Order #2 (attachment 2) represents the deepening of the Brookhollow Road Lift Station in <br /> anticipation of this approved additional work. <br /> The construction bid award to J.F. Wilkerson Construction that the Board authorized on August <br /> 23, 2011 gave the Manager the authority to execute change orders up to $250,000 in total. The <br /> Manager is not authorized at this time to execute this change order without Board approval. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: There are sufficient funds within the project to cover the attached <br /> change order in the amount of $219,257.78. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends the Board: <br /> • authorize the Manager to execute the attached change order in the amount of <br /> $219,257.78 related to the project scope expansion of the additional gravity sewer <br /> outfall connection between the new Brookhollow Road Lift Station and the end-of- <br /> life McGowan Creek Lift Station; and <br /> • authorize the Manager to execute any future change orders for this project up to <br /> an amount not to exceed $250,000 in total upon County Attorney review and not to <br /> exceed the overall project budget. <br />
