CRS is a voluntary <br /> incentive program that is part of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). <br /> The program recognizes and encourages community floodplain management <br /> activities that exceed the minimum NFIP requirements and can provide potential <br /> savings to county residents on their flood insurance premiums. <br /> As you may already be aware, on December 13, 2011 the NFIP, on the behalf of <br /> FEMA, awarded Orange County a CRS score of eight (8). As a result, flood <br /> insurance premium rates are discounted to reflect the reduced flood risk resulting <br /> from the community actions meeting the three goals of the CRS to: <br /> 1. Reduce flood losses, <br /> 2. Facilitate accurate insurance rating, and <br /> 3. Promote the awareness of flood insurance. <br /> Effective October 1, 2011 all existing flood insurance premiums for structures <br /> located within a floodplain are subject to a ten (10) percent discount. Any new <br /> flood insurance premiums written for existing structures within the floodplain are <br /> also subject to the ten (10) percent discount. <br /> You may want to discuss this matter with your private homeowner's insurance <br /> agent.
