BERNADETTEPELISSIER, CHAIR
PAM HEMMINGER, DICE CHAIR
VALERIEP. FOUSHEE
ALICEM. GORDON
BARRYJACOBS
EARL MCKEE
STEVE YUHASZ
August 29, 2012
Ms. Margaret Heath
Chapel Hill, N.C.
Dear Ms. Heath,
Orange County Board of Commissioners
Post Office Box 8181
200 South Cameron Street
Hillsborough, North Carolina 27278
Information Item
\fh
On behalf of the Orange County Board of Commissioners, I am responding to your
petition of August 14, 2012 in reference to concerns about the need for a stronger pet ID policy
at Orange County Animal Services.
Your original petition was forwarded to the Animal Services Advisory Board (ASAB)
after review by the ChairNice Chair /Manager. The ASAB reviewed your petition and submitted
a recommendation back to the Board of Commissioners as requested, stating that they note
that micro -chips and collars to all adoptable animals may become a priority for Animal Services
if sufficient funds become available. It also stated that, as is always the case, one of the
responsibilities of those involved with County Animal Services is to decide the best use of
available resources based on dynamic needs and priorities; and it is only by doing so that
Animal Services can continue to provide the very best service possible to the residents of
Orange County.
The role of the Animal Services Advisory Board, as with all of our advisory boards, is
to maintain awareness of their goals and objectives as those goals are related to the Orange
County Board of Commissioners' adopted overall goals and objectives for Orange County. All
actions or recommendations of an advisory board shall be communicated to the Orange
County Board of Commissioners, which the ASAB did.
This letter will be provided as an Information Item on the September 18, 2012 BOCC
agenda for public information.
Regards,
n
Bernadette Pelissier, Chair
Board of County Commissioners
CC: Board of Commissioners
Frank Clifton, County Manager
www.co.orange.nc.us
Protecting and preserving— People, Resources, Quality of Life
Orange County, North Carolina — You Count!
(919) 245 -2130 .
