North Carolina Department of Transportation, Rural Operating Assistance <br />Program (ROAP) Grant Funding <br />The Board conducted a public hearing for the NCDOT Rural Operating Assistance <br />Program (ROAP) grant application, considered approval of the FY 200612007 ROAP grant <br />application for a total combined amount of $116,025, and authorizing the Chair to sign the <br />Certification Statement of Participation. <br />AI Terry said that each year the North Carolina Department of Transportation's Public <br />Transportation Division offers a grant application to community transit agencies such as Orange <br />Public Transportation. It is broken into three different areas -elderly disabled transportation <br />assistance program, rural general public program, and the Work First program - and these <br />monies are used for the three different agencies. The total amount this year is $116,025, they <br />apply for it every year, and there is no local match. These funds are used to help transport <br />people and donate vehicles. Update and Passible Changes to Plans at Northern Center <br />The Board received an update on various departmental projects, programs, and <br />activities underway in the building and on the grounds of the Northern Human Services Center <br />at Cedar Grove. <br />John Link said that with Recreation and Parks and the library, this facility is being used <br />just about every day of the week. Once this building receives new plumbing with the new well <br />and septic system, then the usage will definitely go up. <br />Gwen Harvey said that this is a result of work that has taken place out in the field among <br />many departments. The abstract has a summary of things that have been done and that are in <br />progress at this facility.
