APPROVED 514!2006 <br />MINUTES <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />MEETING TO DISCUSS SEARCH FIRMS <br />March 30, 2006 <br />5:30 p.m. <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met to discuss potential search firms for <br />the Orange County Manager search on Thursday, March 30, 2006 at 5:30 p.m. at the <br />Southern Human Services Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. <br />COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chair Barry Jacobs, Vice-Chair Stephen <br />Halkiotis and Commissioners Valerie P. Foushee, and Alice Gordon <br />COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioners Moses Carey, Jr. <br />COUNTY STAFF PRESENT: Deputy Clerk to the Board David Hunt <br />NOTE: ALL DOCUMENTS REFERRED TO IN THESE MINUTES ARE IN THE <br />PERMANENT AGENDA FILE IN THE CLERK'S OFFICE. <br />The meeting began at 6:00 p.m <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met to discuss the County Manager <br />search process and the selection criteria for potential search firms. <br />Each member of the Board had previously submitted aone-page listing of search <br />process components. Each member of the Board had previously received and reviewed <br />the submitted comments from each of their peers. <br />Commissioner Jacobs announced that Anita Badrock with "Smither & Associates, Inc." <br />withdrew from consideration due to time constraints. <br />All Board members agreed their lists of the search process were on comparable paths. <br />The Board discussed key aspects of the remaining two firms, "The Mercer Group, Inc." <br />and "Stavin Management Consultants". <br />A motion was made by Commissioner Halkiotis, seconded by Commissioner Foushee to <br />accept "The Mercer Group, Inc." as the search firm for selecting the County Manager. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br />The Chair agreed to call both firms after the meeting to inform them of he Board's <br />decision. <br />The Board discussed possible dates to meet with Mercer to define the search process. <br />It was agreed that the meeting would take at least two or three hours. <br />A motion was made by Commissioner Foushee, seconded by Commissioner Halkiotis to <br />add a closed session to this evening's agenda. <br />
