The preservation of the Hogan-Rogers House would be another <br /> important site that could placed on a protected list and benefit the community <br /> through the protections this status offers. The preservation of this house will be <br /> will also become a valuable tool to help the Rogers Road community develop <br /> economically. <br /> The Preservation Society of Chapel Hill is developing a program that links the <br /> Hogan-Rogers House with other historic sites to form an African American <br /> heritage corridor called,Freedom Road: The African American Heritage Trail. <br /> These are areas that collectively tell the story of African-Americans from 1840- <br /> 1940 during the transition from slavery to freedom. The Hogan-Rogers House <br /> would be linked to the new St. Paul A.M.E. Church Museum as anchors the <br /> proposed tour. The Freedom Road trail would then be linked with other North <br /> Carolina Scenic Byways System that run through Orange County. Developing <br /> tourism by promoting this tour system could generate more opportunities for <br /> development. The increasing interest in learning about African American history <br /> has the potential to bring visitors to the area to the neighborhood. <br /> But without Orange County, Chapel Hill, and Carrboro leaders recognizing the <br /> value, potential, and worthiness of the endeavor, the house will be destroyed. <br /> Investing in the past is a great invest for the future of this proud community. The <br /> preservation of the Hogan-Rogers House is an essential icon that reminds of both <br /> the tragedy and triumph of America's most turbulent periods. <br /> 5 <br />
