ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: September 6, 2012 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 4-a <br /> SUBJECT: "The Nature of Orange" Photography Contest <br /> DEPARTMENT: DEAPR PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACTS: <br /> Winning Photos David Stancil, 245-2510 <br /> Contest Brochure Rich Shaw, 245-2510 <br /> Beverly Shuford, 245-2510 <br /> PURPOSE: To recognize the winners and thank all participants of "The Nature of Orange" <br /> 2012 Photography Contest. <br /> BACKGROUND: The Department of Environment, Agriculture, Parks and Recreation (DEAPR) <br /> completed its inaugural "The Nature of Orange" Photography Contest in May 2012. The contest <br /> was advertised from fall 2011 through spring 2012 via the Orange County DEAPR website, <br /> advisory boards, local newspapers, and the DEAPR Winter Program Guide. <br /> The goal of the contest was to inspire exploration, celebration and appreciation of Orange <br /> County's diverse landscapes and outdoor experiences. Photographers of all ages documented <br /> the beauty of the County's wildlife, waterways, natural resources, and people connecting to the <br /> environment. <br /> A total of 66 photographs were submitted and, of these photographs first, second and third <br /> place winners were chosen from the Youth and Adult divisions by a panel of three judges. <br /> Winners received a congratulatory letter, certificate, and a small monetary award. The <br /> photographs will be displayed at the Orange County Public Library, Visitors Center, and John M. <br /> Link, Jr. Government Services Center. In addition, winning photographs are displayed on the <br /> Orange County DEAPR website and all 66 entries are featured on the Orange County DEAPR <br /> Facebook and Flicker page at: <br /> http://www.co.orange.nc.us/deapr/photographycontestwinners.asp <br /> The winners are as follows: <br /> YOUTH: 1st Place — Kirby Lau; 2nd Place — Delaney Morley; 3rd Place — Kirby Lau <br /> ADULT: 1st Place — Richard Robinson; 2nd Place — Lisa Tate; 3rd Place — Steve Cook <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with recognizing the contest <br /> winners and thanking all the participants. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board congratulate the contest <br /> winners and thank all those who participated in the photo contest. <br />
