22 Attachment E Retiree Health Eligibility by Jurisdiction At the June 19, 2012 BOCC meeting, the Board approved an amendment to the Personnel Ordinance Article IV, Section 28-36 regarding retiree health coverage for employees hired on or after July 1, 2012. The amendment changed the requirements for health coverage for service retirees from ten total years to twenty continuous years of service. The BOCC requested additional information about service requirements in other jurisdictions. Staff conducted a survey of comparable jurisdictions. The results are shown below. Ten jurisdictions require continuous service (one requires the last 10 years of 30 be continuous and another allows an exception for a break of less than one year) and eight jurisdictions require total service, with one that starts the count over if there is a break of more than three years.
