Arts in Education Grant— Spring 2012 McDougle Elementary School PTA <br /> 7 Resumes of Key Artists and Administrators Involved in Grant Funded <br /> Programs <br /> Flamenco Carolina <br /> Flamenco Carolina performs and teaches flamenco in North Carolina schools and other venues <br /> throughout the state. Troupe members have extensive training and their passion is to share the <br /> beautiful and cultural experience of flamenco to a wide variety of audiences. For example, one <br /> of the troupe members, Alicia Vila, began studying the art of flamenco a decade ago under <br /> Carlota Santana Flamenco Vivo, one of the premier flamenco and Spanish dance companies in <br /> the United States. <br /> Hobey Ford <br /> Internationally award-winning performer, Kennedy Center Partner in Education teaching artist, <br /> recognized master puppeteer, and Asheville NC resident, Ford often adapts folk cultures and <br /> tales from various countries for his performances, always adding a special "Golden Rod"twist. <br /> Ford has brought his amazing talent to family audiences all over the world for over two decades <br /> and has received the highest awards for his priceless contributions to the world of puppetry. <br /> Using his own voice to create characters and sound effects, tell stories and make his puppets <br /> sing, Hobey's performances feature his handmade original signature"Foamies,"animated, <br /> carved-foam rod puppets. He performs unmasked, in full view in his roles as MC, engaged <br /> storyteller, puppeteer and animator, creating a seamless, magical and hypnotic dance between <br /> the audience, the puppeteer, the life-like puppets and his original artistic scenery. Two-time <br /> winner of puppetry's highest honor, the UNIMA Citation of Excellence, recipient of three Jim <br /> Henson Foundation grants and The Heritage Fellowship, Hobey Ford is known for excellence in <br /> puppetry performance and craft. <br /> Page 8 of 22 <br />
