The ArtsCenter: 10 By 10 in the Triangle I <br /> Arts Program Grant - Spring 2012-13 <br /> Orange County Arts Commission <br /> Application Narrative <br /> Organizational Profile <br /> Over the course of its thirty-eight year history, The ArtsCenter (TAC) has grown from a single <br /> painting class into a vibrant and dynamic multi-purpose, multi-disciplinary, grass roots community <br /> arts center serving more than 60,000 citizens of all ages and walks of life. Constituents come mostly <br /> from Orange County and four surrounding counties in North Carolina, although audience members <br /> travel from throughout North Carolina and even from other states to attend specific music and <br /> theater performances presented during the year in the 355 seat Earl and Rhoda Wynn Theater. <br /> The ArtsCenter is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization. It is governed by a thirteen member board <br /> which meets monthly to establish policy, ensure that there are adequate financial resources for the <br /> organization to accomplish its mission, oversee financial expenditures, ensure that earmarked funds <br /> are managed according to the stipulation of funders, manage the organization's assets to protect its <br /> future and ensure that financial controls are in place. <br /> The ArtsCenter is organized into five programmatic departments. These are briefly described <br /> below. <br /> Current Programs and Services <br /> Concerts. TAC presents 60 concerts, representing the spectrum of musical genres by local, <br /> emerging, and nationally touring artists including Folk, Blues, Celtic, Latin, Rock, and Roll, Zydeco, <br /> and Bluegrass. <br /> Theatre. International theatre at its most local, ArtsCenter Stage showcases the work of emerging <br /> and established artists hailing from next door to around the world. Featuring new works and re- <br /> inventions of the classics, improvisation and storytelling, puppetry and musicals, theatre for younger <br /> and older audiences, ArtsCenter Stage is community-oriented theatre with a commitment to <br /> developing new artists and audiences. <br /> ArtSchool. ArtSchool at TAC is Orange County's most comprehensive non-profit resource for <br /> continuing education in the arts on a non-degree, community basis. The ArtSchool now offers <br /> more than 400 classes in all artistic disciplines for all experience levels and ages, awards more than <br /> 50 scholarships annually, and offers work-study opportunities. <br /> Youth Programs. TAC has provided artistically excellent, age-appropriate and accessible arts <br /> experiences to Triangle families for over 20 years. Currently, TAC offers the School Show Series, <br /> the SuperFun Series, I<idsCamp,AfterSchool Arts Immersion, and Arts in Education residencies to area <br /> youth and families, reaching approximately 26,000 children in up to six counties. Youth Arts Classes <br /> (YAQ—which includes fine art classes for youth and workshops and camps year round in acting, <br /> musical theatre dance, chorus, stage combat, radio drama, acting for the camera, improvisation and <br /> more. YAC has worked in partnership with PlayMakers Repertory Company and ArtsCenter Stage <br /> on annual productions. <br /> Galleries. The Center Gallery features the work of local and regional artists on a rotating basis. <br /> The Gallery exhibitions highlight the work of more than 100 local and regional artists in 12 <br /> exhibitions a year. The East End Gallery provides a second gallery space, offering monthly <br /> exhibitions featuring a mix of local and regional artists. <br />
