The Hillsborough Arts Council volunteers have <br /> been serving the arts and cultural needs of the community through a diversity of initiatives and <br /> services. The Hillsborough Arts Council is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. <br /> Current Programs and Services–a brief list. <br /> • Hillsborough Last Fridays- Music Crafts, performers, film and visual art on the Last <br /> Friday of every month <br /> • Last Fridays Art Walk—An art walk featuring local galleries, artist studios and shops <br /> which showcase work by regional artists <br /> • Hillsborough Arts Council Gallery—Monthly exhibits featuring artists throughout the <br /> region <br /> • Hillsborough Handmade Parade—A series of music and puppet making workshops <br /> culminating in a walking theatrical performance parade <br /> • Parlor Concerts—Classical, jazz and folk set in historic homes in Hillsborough, NC <br /> • Traditional Music Series—Folk, gospel, Cajun, Celtic, Latin and contemporary,music <br /> performances <br /> • Creative Expressions—Junior high and high school students are matched with local <br /> artist mentors <br /> • Art Space Planning—Working with the community to envision potential art spaces in <br /> town <br /> • Hillsborough Downtown Arts and Crafts Show—A juried art and crafts show held on <br /> the lawn of the Visitors'Center each spring <br /> • Creative Writing Workshops—Providing the opportunity to study with published <br /> authors <br /> • Visual Arts and Creativity Workshops—A series of workshops with professional <br /> artists of all skill levels <br /> • Hillsborough Jazz Festival—Bringing outdoor jazz performances to Hillsborough <br /> annually <br /> Proposed Uses of Grant Funds <br /> The proposed use of the Last Fridays Art Walk grant is to provide continued promotional <br /> support to the Hillsborough Arts Council's Last Friday Art Walk which runs annually on the Last <br /> Fridays of each month from February through November. <br /> The Hillsborough Arts Council's Last Fridays Art Walk began in 2006 when Heather Delisle saw <br /> that there was a need to promote the visual arts in Hillsborough. It was a natural decision to <br /> hold an art walk on the same night as the Council's successful Last Fridays events held during <br /> the last Friday of each month from April through September. The first year had twelve venues <br /> participating from artist's studios to shops around town which displayed and sold local art work. <br /> I L shops L 1 11 U <br />
