Lesson Plan <br /> Artist: Braima Moiwai <br /> BLACK HOSTORY MONTH 2012 <br /> Grade: level: Elementary and Middle schools <br /> Braima Moiwai share songs, interactive games, hands-on drumming technigU'es, si ' mini <br /> performance at THE Montissori Elementary School, St. Simons Island, Georgia, and N4W Port <br /> Middle school, New Port, North Carolina. <br /> nationality: African Games and Stories <br /> Description: <br /> This residency crosses the Atlantic Ocean by connecting the traditions <br /> of West Africa with the Carolinas and Georgia Sea Island culture through <br /> games, music and stories frpm West Africa. <br /> Main Objective: to make students think about the world around them though hands-on drumming <br /> technique, and interactive games, games, stories, and a mini performance at the end to share <br /> with other classes who could not participate. <br /> Format: <br /> Artist, Braima asks questions to make students think out side the box. <br /> Using "call&response":"Ah-go? And the students would respond, "Ah-meh!" <br /> Which means: "Are you listening?"'Yes, I am!" <br /> Artist introduces himself and the Students say their names in a semi-circle. <br /> Braima tell them the purpose of his visit, and he asks students questions to find out what they <br /> know. <br /> How do you make music without a musical instrument? <br /> How do children entertain themselves? <br /> What kid of songs do they sing?Games they play?And stories they listen to? <br /> We're taking an imaginary trip to Sierra Leone for a couple of hours and participate in some <br /> of the things kids do. Then we will share with other classes what we learned in a mini <br /> performance. <br />
