Smaller subgroups, from 5 to 8 in number play for weddings,bar-bat mitzvahs, parties, benefits,
and other celebrations.
Viva la Venus! —RBC Bank; 3:00- Viva la Venus is a four-piece touring and recording act. The
live show combines powerful vocal harmonies with the gritty chug of guitars along with a sexy
stage presence, taking the audience on a musical rollercoaster ride. Along with being featured on
The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Raleigh's Live and Local TV, the track "Mystery" was
featured in two episodes of the cable television series, Strong Medicine, on the Lifetime
Network. The debut CD release, The Never Ending Mending Story(Shiny Pants Records), has
received wide critical acclaim. The second release, Forget the Fairy Tale was released in 2005
and was selected as one of the Top 25 CD's of 2006 by indiemusic.com.
Barrowburn-Looking Glass Cafe; 6:00-Barrowburn is a Raleigh,NC based band presenting
traditional Celtic music on acoustic instruments for dances, public performances, group
meetings, and private engagements throughout North Carolina. Barrowburn prides itself in its
versatility. They are equally at home ripping through a set of jigs or reels as they are rendering
the simple beauty of a slow air or lament. They perform both legacy and contemporary ballads
from the tradition as well as comical pub songs that are best accompanied by a swinging pint of
Guinness. In concert, they demonstrate their love for Celtic music, but do so from an American
perspective.
Skeedaddle- Century Center; 7:00- Skeedaddle is a six piece acoustic string band that plays 20s
and 30s swing, Hawaiian, jump blues, jug band and other roots Americana music with the
intensity of a vaudevillian volleyball troupe. They perform all manner of Americana roots music,
including pre-war swing, jug band music, jump blues, Dixieland, rockabilly, old time, Hawaiian
and hokum. It is music to help you snatch wigs, hit jugs, bang gongs, vipe, flip, vout and orootie.
Off The Road Band- RBC Bank; 1:00-The Off the Road Band is exactly that, traveling the side
tracks and byways of American music-a unique blend of many styles, including blues, bluegrass,
jug band and good old rock and roll. And though you might occasionally hear an unusual
arrangement of a classic tune, most of the band's offerings are its own original compositions.
Based in Chapel Hill/Pittsboro, NC, the sextet is made up of Don Johnson on rhythm guitar,
Dave Haynes on drums, Bill Joyner on banjo, Betsy Clarke on fiddle and percussion, Mike
Chandler on electric and upright bass and Mitch Renkow on accordion and electric lead guitar.
All members contribute vocally and help write songs.
