Their music is also featured on the belly dance instructional DVDs "Foundations of Raqs Sharqi:
Technique and Isolations for Belly Dance Level 1" and "Fabulous FanveilZZ Volume 2".
Bulltown Strutters- Town Commons; 6:00-Bulltown Strutters is a community parade band,
inspired by street band traditions from New Orleans. Bulltown Strutters was born in September
of 2010 when Mark Donelly of Hillsborough Arts Council asked Cathy Kielar if she could get
together a percussion band for the Oct 2010 Hillsborough Handmade Parade. Cathy responded
with " I think I can do better than that." Cathy then enlisted her clarinet-playing husband, Blaise
Kielar, and Blaise contacted his horn playing friends. They play music that is ripe for butt
shaking, smile making, shake and boogie music.
Diali Cissohko & Kairaba!- Town Commons; 1:00- Diali Cissokho&Kairaba! is composed of
Senegalese griot musician Diali Keba Cissokho, with North Carolinians John Westmoreland,
Jonathan Henderson, Austin McCall and Will Ridenour. The band formed after Diali moved to
North Carolina and began to look for musicians who shared his love and passion for creating
music based on Manding tradition, flavored with local and personal styles. The outcome of this
collaboration is an infectious sound reminiscent of West African dance bands full of unison
melody, adventurous improvisation, fiery solos and polyrhythmic frameworks.
And here are some of our"re ug lars":
Tim Smith Band-Weaver Street Market; 6:15- After more than a decade, this North Carolina
band formerly called The Jumpstarts is still cooking up a deliciously original blend of great
music. Based in traditional 1950s style Jamaican ska and reggae, the group stirs in a heavy
helping of jazz with a sampling of gospel and blues. Seasoned with soul and a dash of funk, this
concoction really simmers. Like an old family recipe passed along from one generation to the
next, the dish of a band only gets better with time.
Loose Mood Experiment- ArtsCenter's West End;7:00-The original compositions Gary
Duncan creates on the hammered dulcimer are founded in rhythm as much as in melody and
reflect his percussive background. His live performances in North Carolina in small venues and
music festivals are enthusiastically and warmly received.
Big Fat Gap- Fifth Season Gardening; 6:00- Big Fat Gap is a back porch bluegrass band that has
no plans to take Nashville by storm. Some of them even have day jobs. They just like to pick,
they like each other, and it shows. Their shows are known to be excellent for those who enjoy
sweet three part harmonies, smoking solos, and captivating stage dynamics. Their fun
performances bring loyal fans back for more They are Miles Andrews on lead vocals and Bass,
Rick Hauchman on mandolin & vocals, Andy Thorn on banjo,Bobby Britt on fiddle and Jamie
Griggs on Guitar.
