A motion was made by Commissioner Jacobs, seconded by Commissioner Halkiotis to <br />designate the week of March 13t" through 19t", 2005 as Severe Weather Awareness Week in <br />Orange County, and encourage residents to learn more about severe weather safety and <br />authorize the Chair to sign the proclamation. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br />Chair Carey asked about any activities and Jack Ball said that they are participating in a <br />statewide drill, they will be doing tornado drills, and they have information in the office for the <br />public. <br />Commissioner Gordon asked about the severity of predictions and Jack Ball said that <br />they use meteorologists from the power companies, and they have a good track record and <br />keep EMS posted. <br />Commissioner Gordan asked about the recommendation for the public about a list of <br />items to keep on hand and Jack Ball said that there is a list on the EMS website. <br />e. County Government Week <br />The Board considered proclaiming the week of April 10-16, 2005 as Orange County <br />Government Week and endorsing the "Official for a Day" activities and authorizing the Chair to <br />sign. <br />Assistant County Manager Gwen Harvey read the proclamation. She was standing in for <br />Sharron Hinton, Director of Community Programs. <br />PROCLAMATION <br />Orange County Government Week <br />April 10 - 16, 2005 <br />WHEREAS, County employees serve America; and <br />WHEREAS, County employees protect our neighborhoods; keep families healthy; help <br />troubled youths and young adults; train displaced workers; provide <br />veteran services; and perform countless other jobs with dedication and <br />pride; and <br />WHEREAS, Counties maintain important historical records; support opportunities for <br />new businesses to prosper; regulate land use, deliver services to the <br />elderly and healthcare to the disabled and needy; and <br />WHEREAS, When natural or man-made disaster strikes, County emergency <br />responders act swiftly to help keep children and their families safe and <br />informed until order can be restored; and <br />WHEREAS, Since colonial times counties have been a key part of providing critical <br />and valued services to the public; <br />WHEREAS, Most County services are available to all residents, whether they live <br />inside or outside of a city or town, and <br />WHEREAS, County governments listen to the voice of their residents, building <br />solutions that bring people together. <br />
