A motion was made by Commissioner Jacobs, seconded by Commissioner Gordon to <br />recognize and celebrate April as Fair Housing Month and authorize the Chair to sign. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br />Commissioner Jacobs said that Senator Kinnaird asked that the Board endorse the <br />amendment of our civil rights ordinance to include protections and access to housing without <br />regard to the origin of one's lawful income. Some people are being discriminated against <br />because they use section 8 vouchers. Senator Kinnaird would like to introduce a bill that <br />amends the ordinance. He said that he is not sure what the law says. <br />Geaf Gledhill said that he does not think that the General Assembly would be amending <br />the ordinance. He recommends that the Board approve the concept in principle and allow he <br />and Milan Pham to work with Senator Kinnaird on the best legislative solution. <br />A motion was made by Commissioner Jacobs, seconded by Commissioner Gordon to <br />approve the concept of amending the civil rights ordinance in principle as stated above, and <br />allow the County Attorney and the Director of Human Rights and Relations to work with Senator <br />Kinnaird on the best legislative solution. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br />c. Public Safety Telecommunicators' Week <br />The Board considered a proclamation to recognize the week of April 10 through 16, <br />2005 as Public Safety Telecommunicators' Week in Orange County and authorize the Chair to <br />sign. <br />Dinah Jeffries read the proclamation. <br />PUBLIC SAFETY TELECOMMUNICATORS' WEEK <br />2005 <br />A PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS, Thousands of dedicated Telecommunicatars daily serve the citizens of the <br />United States and Canada by answering their telephone calls for law enforcement, fire, and <br />emergency medical services by dispatching the appropriate assistance as quickly as passible; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, The critical functions performed by professional Telecommunicators also include <br />those related to forestry and conservation operations, highway safety and maintenance <br />activities, and many other operations performed by federal, state and local government <br />agencies; and <br />WHEREAS, Professional Telecommunicators work to improve the emergency response <br />capabilities of these communication systems through their leadership and participation in <br />training programs and other activities provided by the Association of Public Safety <br />Communications Officials and the National Emergency Number Association; and <br />WHEREAS, These associations are organizations of more than 100,000 people engaged in <br />the design, installation and operation of emergency response communications, has set aside <br />the week beginning April 10, 2005, to recognize Telecommunicatars and their crucial role in the <br />protection of life and property; and <br />
