NOW, THEREFORE, we, the Orange County Board of Commissioners, hereby proclaim the <br />week of April 10-16, 2005, as "National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week" in Orange <br />County, North Carolina, in honor and recognition of our County's Telecommunicators and the <br />vital contributions they make to the safety and well being of Orange County residents. <br />Adopted this 15th day of March 2005. <br />A motion was made by Commissioner Jacobs, seconded by Commissioner Halkiotis to <br />recognize the week of April 10 through 16, 2005 as Public Safety Telecommunicators' Week in <br />Orange County and authorize the Chair to sign. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br />EMS Director Jack Ball recognized the telecommunicators. He said that since his <br />employment, he has been awakened to the wealth of education and training that this <br />department does in the County and the entire State. <br />d. Severe Weather Awareness Week <br />The Board considered designating the week of March 13`" through 19`", 2005 as Severe <br />Weather Awareness Week in Orange County, and encouraging residents to learn more about <br />severe weather safety and authorizing the Chair to sign the proclamation. <br />Emergency Management Specialist Eric Griffin said that most recently Orange County <br />experienced a tornado in January. He read the proclamation. <br />A PROCLAMATION <br />Severe Weather Awareness Week <br />March 13`" through 19`", 2005 <br />WHEREAS, The National Weather Service and the Governor of North Carolina have <br />proclaimed the week of March 13t" through 19`" as Severe Weather Awareness <br />Week; and <br />WHEREAS, Orange County is vulnerable to severe weather, including the devastating <br />impacts of tornadoes; and <br />WHEREAS, Tornadoes and severe weather occur each year in North Carolina; and <br />WHEREAS, Orange County was most recently struck by a tornado on January 14, 2005; and <br />WHEREAS, The need for residents to learn more about severe weather and how to protect <br />themselves should be emphasized; <br />NOW THEREFORE, we, the Orange County Board of Commissioners, hereby proclaim the <br />week of March 13`" through 19`", 2005, as Severe Weather Awareness Week, <br />and encourage all residents to learn more about severe weather and be aware <br />of its dangers, especially during the spring and summer months. <br />Adopted this 15th day of March 2005. <br />
