Commissioner Jacobs said that he read in the newspaper that Hillsborough has a <br />proposal fora 200+-unit housing development. He asked if this information has been received <br />as part of courtesy review. Craig Benedict said that they have not received this information, but <br />that he also saw it in the paper, and they are continuing coordination with Hillsborough to be as <br />timely as passible. <br />Commissioner Jacobs said that this is disappointing. He suggested bringing this issue <br />up at the meeting with the Hillsborough Town Board on Thursday. <br />6. Resolutions or Proclamations <br />a. Resolution Honoring Kingsdown, Inc. <br />The Board considered a resolution recognizing Kingsdown, Inc. for outstanding <br />corporate citizenship for the purchase and renovation of a previously vacant industrial property <br />in Orange County and for its focus on employees as its most critical resource. <br />Economic Development Director Dianne Reid and CEO of Kingsdown, Inc. Eric Hinshaw <br />came forward. <br />Dianne Reid gave the history of the renovation of this building. <br />Eric Hinshaw thanked the Board far this recognition. He said that they are an employee <br />owned company and it is very important for them to have a wonderful facility and a cooperative <br />county like Orange County. He said that they have a health and wellness program and an <br />excellent fitness facility for their employees. <br />Commissioner Foushee read the resolution. <br />A motion was made by Commissioner Halkiotis, seconded by Commissioner Jacobs to <br />adopt a resolution recognizing Kingsdown, Inc. for outstanding corporate citizenship for the <br />purchase and renovation of a previously vacant industrial property in Orange County and for its <br />focus on employees as its most critical resource as stated below: <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />RESOLUTION HONORING KINGSDOWN, INC. <br />WHEREAS, Kingsdown began making mattresses in Mebane by hand in 1904, using materials <br />such as corn husks and horsehair insulation; and <br />WHEREAS, 100 years later -though the materials have evolved -Kingsdown mattress sets <br />are still handcrafted; and <br />WHEREAS, the company has developed and patented the "Sleep to Live" sleep system and <br />grown from a Southeast regional company to one with distribution in 17 countries within Asia, <br />the Middle East, Canada, South America, Australia, and Europe; and <br />WHEREAS, Kingsdown now has facilities in Florida, Virginia, Tennessee and Oklahoma; and <br />WHEREAS, the company has been employee owned since 1985, governed by an Employee <br />Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP); and <br />WHEREAS, Kingsdown purchased and completely renovated the former Royal Home Fashion <br />plant on Oakwood Street Extension in western Orange County last year to house its mattress <br />manufacturing; and <br />
