Presentation of a report on Congestion and Air Quality (CMAQ) funding available for <br />transportation projects and programs that reduce transportation-related emissions in non- <br />attainment and maintenance areas. <br />Craig Benedict said that Orange County could apply for CMAQ funding for non-attainment <br />areas within the Triangle. The funding comes from two sources - DurhamlChapel HilllOrange <br />County Metropolitan Planning Organization and Rural Planning Organization. In the MPO, there <br />is $7,503,584 of funding for aseven-year period. In the RPO, the County would be a partner with <br />the rural sections of Chatham, rural Orange, Lee, and Moore Counties and there is $481,269 <br />available. <br />Eligible Projects: <br />Improved Transit {new or expanded) <br />- Operating casts of new service for three years <br />- Costs of transit facilities <br />- Cost of vehicles for new service <br />Travel Demand Management {TDM) <br />- Market research <br />- Traffic calming measures <br />- Carpool and vanpool programs <br />- Operation for up to three years <br />- Public education <br />Park and Ride Lots <br />- Multiple-occupancy vehicle programs <br />- Transit service <br />Bicycle and Pedestrian Facilities and Programs <br />- Construction of bike lanes and sidewalks <br />- Safe bicycle storage facilities/bike racks <br />Alternative Fuels <br />- Purchase of alternative fuel vehicles <br />- Public on-site alternative fueling facilities <br />Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Program Proposed Projects: <br />1.
