Davis, Water Resources Coordinator DATE: June 5, 2012 RE: 2012 Annual Observation Well Network Report Enclosed is the 2012 annual report for the Orange County Observation Well Network, known as Orange Well Net. This report documents the progress which has been made toward the goal of having a groundwater observation well network in Orange County dedicated to monitoring local groundwater conditions. The network is designed to provide important information regarding the quantity of groundwater available to the citizens of the County, especially during times of drought. The report discusses how arrangements have been made to utilize existing out -of- service water supply wells for the long -term collection of groundwater level information. In addition, during 2011 an agreement was reached permitting the use of three regolith wells for the collection of regolith groundwater level data. The 2012 report includes hydrographs covering the period since the initiation of data collection in March 2010 for each of the six bedrock wells and since June 2011 for the three regolith wells currently utilized in Orange Well Net. Staff would like to consider additional means of expanding the well network to enhance the data collection that is currently underway. Given the loss of the Rocky Ridge bedrock well in early 2012, collecting groundwater level information from additional wells is an even larger priority.
