RESOLUTION #: 2012 -50 <br />APPROVED 05/29/2012 <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />A RESOLUTION APPOINTING PAUL LAUGHTON AS INTERIM TAX <br />ADMINISTRATOR DURING THE UNEXPIRED TERM OF JENKINS S. CRAYTON <br />UNTIL SUCH TIME AS A QUALIFIED INDIVIDUAL MAY BE SELECTED TO FILL <br />THE FULL UNEXPIRED TERM OF JENKINS S. CRAYTON <br />WHEREAS, Jenkins S. Crayton was appointed by the Orange County Board of County <br />Commissioners to serve as Tax Administrator from July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2013; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the Orange County Tax Administrator serves in the statutory roles of both <br />the Orange County Tax Assessor and the Orange County Tax Collector; and <br />WHEREAS, effective May 29, 2012 Jenkins S. Crayton resigned the position of Tax <br />Administrator but will continue in the role of both advisor and consultant to the Interim <br />Tax Administrator beginning May 30, 2012; and <br />WHEREAS, North Carolina law specifies that in the case of a vacancy occurring in the <br />offices of tax assessor and tax collector, the Board of County Commissioners shall <br />appoint a qualified person to serve as county tax assessor and a qualified person to <br />serve as county tax collector for the period of the unexpired term; and <br />WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners have had no opportunity to conduct a <br />search and selection process to permanently fill the position of Orange County Tax <br />Administrator with a qualified person; and <br />WHEREAS, there being no qualified person readily available to serve out the unexpired <br />term of Jenkins S. Crayton and pending the opportunity to conduct a search for such a <br />qualified person to occupy the position of Orange County Tax Administrator the Orange <br />County Board of Commissioners elects to appoint an Interim Tax Administrator. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Orange County Board of <br />Commissioners, does hereby appoint Paul Laughton to serve as Interim Orange County <br />Tax Assessor and Interim Orange County Tax Collector and such appointments to be <br />served under the title Interim Orange County Tax Administrator until such time as a <br />qualified person may be selected to fill the full unexpired term of Jenkins S.
