WHEREAS, Chief District Court Judge Joe Buckner, the District Bar of Orange and Chatham <br />Counties and the Orange County Bar Association provided primary concept, <br />funding and spirit to make this dream a reality; and, <br />WHEREAS, the painting by Michael Brown with help from Jennifer Miller represents one and a <br />half years of research with help from UNC students; and, <br />WHEREAS, during the last week of December 2003, six panels, 8 feet wide by 20 feet tall, were <br />installed in the courtroom; and, <br />WHEREAS, the art work contains 60 unique items representing the history of the County from <br />pre-Columbian times to the present and also the diversity of the people who have <br />called Orange County home; and, <br />WHEREAS, the majority of the $35,000 cost was covered by the Judicial District 15B Bar and <br />the Stroud Roses Foundation and private donations; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Orange County Board of Commissioners expresses <br />its sincere appreciation and recognition to Judge Joe Buckner, the District Bar, the <br />Orange County Bar, Michael Brawn and the many others involved for their <br />outstanding effort and skills to bring this public art work to the residents of Orange <br />County. <br />This the fourth day of May 2004. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br />b. Older Americans Month and Senior Center Week <br />The Board considered joining federal and state governments in designating the month of <br />May as Older Americans Month, a time to honor older citizens for their contributions to society; <br />and also to designate the week of May 9 through May 15 as Senior Center Week in Orange <br />County to recognize local senior centers as focal points far providing opportunities and services <br />to alder citizens of Orange County and authorizing the Chair to sign. <br />Commissioner Gordon read the resolution for Senior Center Week. <br />A motion was made by Commissioner Carey, seconded by Commissioner Gordon to join <br />federal and state governments in designating the month of May as Older Americans Month, a <br />time to honor older citizens for their contributions to society; and also to designate the week of <br />May 9 through May 15 as Senior Center Week in Orange County to recognize local senior <br />centers as focal points for providing opportunities and services to older citizens of Orange <br />County and authorize the Chair to sign the proclamations as stated below: <br />PROCLAMATION <br />SENIOR CENTER WEEK <br />WHEREAS, Local communities support over 15, 000 Senior Centers <br />across the United States, serving close to 10 million older <br />adults annually, and , <br />WHEREAS, Orange County has recognized the importance of Senior <br />
