S -'�" -ol r7Q_ ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS RESOLUTION Promote Viable Agriculture /Alternative Farming and Agricultural Practices WHEREAS, the existence of agriculture as a component of the economy is essential to the quality of life and economic health of the County of Orange and the State of North Carolina, and WHEREAS, regulatory programs at the State and local levels may pose unintended hardships and obstacles to the enhancement of agricultural operations and the pursuit of alternative farming practices, and WHEREAS, streamlining these processes will help promote agriculture and eliminate impediments to new agricultural and farm- related ventures, and WHEREAS, the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources (NCDENR) one -stop permitting concept is consistent with these goals, and WHEREAS, the provision of funding for agricultural education -- through an agricultural center or other means — enhances the opportunities for farmers to pursue both traditional and alternative agricultural operations. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the County of Orange Board of Commissioners supports continued funding for the NCDENR one -stop permitting process as a mechanism to streamline the permitting process for agricultural operations (both traditional and alternative). BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Commissioners supports the concept of regional processing centers to create value -added products and help promote farm market options. Upon motion of Commissioner Jacobs, seconded by Commissioner Car e , the foregoing resolution was adopted this the 6th day of March, 2001. I, Beverly A.
