Whereas, According to recent population figures, there are more than 18,734 <br />persons over 55 years of age in Orange County; and, <br />Whereas, Orange County is concerned about the health, fitness, and social <br />well-being of its mature adult population; and, <br />Whereas, Orange County Senior Games provides a special opportunity for mature <br />adults to grow positively in the areas of health, fitness and social well-being; <br />and, <br />Whereas, Orange County would like to encourage local businesses and resident support and <br />participation from county residents age 55 and older; <br />NOW, BE IT THEREFORE PROCLAIMED that the Orange County Board of Commissioners <br />declares May 3-27, 2004 as <br />ORANGE COUNTY SENIOR GAMES EVENT DAYS <br />AND ENCOURAGES CITIZENS AGE 55 AND OVER TO PARTICIPATE. <br />This, the 20th day of April, 2004. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br />d. Drinking Water Week & OWASA Taste of Hope Program <br />The Board considered proclaiming May 2-May 8, 2004 as Drinking Water Week in <br />Orange County and encouraging participation in the Orange Water and Sewer Authority's <br />(OWASA} "Taste of Hope" Customer Assistance Program and authorizing the Chair to sign the <br />proclamation on behalf of the Board. <br />Commissioner Brown read the proclamation. <br />A motion was made by Commissioner Carey, seconded by Commissioner Halkiotis <br />to proclaim May 2-May 8, 2004 as Drinking Water Week in Orange County and encourage <br />participation in the Orange Water and Sewer Authority's (OWASA) "Taste of Hope" Customer <br />Assistance Program and authorize the Chair to sign the proclamation on behalf of the Board as <br />stated below: <br />PROCLAMATION <br />DRINKING WATER WEEK <br />IN ORANGE COUNTY <br />WHEREAS, water is one of the few basic and essential needs of human-kind; and <br />WHEREAS, our health, comfort and standard of living depend upon an abundant supply of <br />safe water; and <br />WHEREAS, the Orange Water and Sewer Authority (OWASA), Town of Hillsborough, <br />Orange-Alamance Water System, Graham-Mebane Water System and Orange <br />County have ensured that facilities and systems provide Orange County citizens <br />with a safe, dependable quality and quantity of water bath now and in the future; <br />and <br />
