®t>
F
5. RELATED EXPERIENCE
C L A R I O N
We are particularly proud of the Master Plan design work that Corley Redfoot
Architects has accomplished over the last decade, for clients and initiatives that
have considerable similarity to this Southern Orange Campus Master Plan
inil iative. We present here a summary of some of these projects.
Town O aerations Center
NCSU I4aster Planning Session
Rashkis Elementary School
East Cb apel Hill High School
Sustain ibility Trail
MASTER PLANNING EXPERIENCE
Corley Redfoot Architects has provided master planning
services for a variety of clients in the local area. Each of
these projects involves the depiction of a future vision.
Whether the vision relates to a specific governmental
department or university activity or endeavor, there are
several principles which guide our planning work.
First and foremost, we listen to our client and the various
stakeholders. We never engage the project with an
assumed solution, as every vision is different just like every
community or institution is different. Each client comes to
us with a set of standards and expectations that must be met
or exceeded if the master planning process is to be
successful. One case in point is Orange County's
overarching goal to be sustainable in its development,
which leads me to my next point.
CRA has incorporated sustainability and environmental
sensitivity concepts into every planning and design project
we perform. An effective master plan must consider the
programmatic and intangible aspects of a project, but it
must also address the tangible traits of a site, including
stormwater management, orientation to the natural
elements, topography and other natural features. Since
master plans generally transform into the built
environment, a design team with planners, engineers and
architects can effectively plan the functions and
relationships of a program, as well as provide pragmatic
direction on its implementation on the ground.
Finally, CRA understands the Orange County and Chapel
Hill development review processes. We are familiar with
the issues that are important to the community and the
planning procedures. We have the experience to provide a
successful master planning process.
Scuthern Orange Campus faster Plan Page 18
