C L A R 1 0 N <br />Preliminary ideas for the Citizen Engagement Strategy: We have mechanisms, <br />techniques, and technologies that we have used successfully in other <br />communities, and we will offer some of those ideas during discussions with <br />County staff during Task 1. <br />Public engagement needs to continue throughout the project. We intend to use <br />stakeholder interviews, major public events, media releases, and website /email <br />distribution of materials. In addition, we intend to suggest use of a keypad <br />polling technology that we have found to be useful and successful in eliciting <br />public opinion. We look forward to introducing that technology and getting <br />feedback from staff regarding its possible benefits in Orange County. <br />We anticipate two major public meetings /events: the first being in the form of a <br />Public Information Meeting to describe the project and obtain ideas and opinions <br />about what issues should be considered in preparing alternative concepts for the <br />site; and a second to ask for comment and feedback on alternative concepts. <br />Citizen engagement is always important. Communication <br />and outreach efforts especially need careful attention for <br />this Master Plan initiative, due to currently - underway <br />community dialogues about Carolina North impacts, and <br />also about a new major residential development being <br />proposed immediately to the west of this site along <br />Homestead Road. <br />Finally, protocols will be established so that the consultant team will prepare <br />regular progress reports in a format to be determined.
