manager. Roger is a Principal in Clarion's North Carolina office. Recognized by
the American Planning Association as "one of the nation's leading planning
functions. His planning and design background, combined with experience as a
foimer elected official, contributed to the success of numerous planning
initiatives, including: preparation and implementation of comprehensive plans,
growth management strategies, special area studies, transportation plans,
institutional partnerships, intergovernmental agreements, and zoning ordinance
up sates. He has helped to develop plans and growth management strategies for
numerous NC municipalities (Chapel Hill, Hillsborough, Wake Forest, Wilson,
Cl;mmons, Matthews, Waxhaw, Emerald Isle) and NC Counties (Orange,
Iredell, Union, Johnston, Moore, Perquimans). His work in other southeastern
states includes Fredericksburg, Manassas, Hanover County, and Powhatan
Corley Redfoot Architects is a long - established architectural and design
firm headquartered in Orange County, offering architecture, civil
engineering, and construction administration services. For over 30 years,
Corley Redfoot Architects has been providing design services in the public
re alm. Clients have included state universities, and governments at the
municipal, county and state levels - including Orange County Government
projects such as the Southern Human Services Center and the John M. Link,
Jr Orange County Government Services Center. Designing in the public
realm is different than working for a private entity in numerous ways. Public
w )rk requires a much more open, inclusive process throughout the design
process. It also requires a long -term perspective and an emphasis on using
public funds wisely and efficiently.
C 2A has led master planning efforts on man y local public projects including
C lapel Hill's Town Operations Center, Durham Tech's Orange County
Campus and NCSU's Recreational Sports Master Plan. On each of these
projects, input from many different stakeholders was essential to producing a
responsive and effective solution. From elected officials to interested
citizens to neighbors of the site in question, a master plan needs to address
issues at all levels. For many years, CRA has worked in this fashion, being
ir. clusive of all voices and being responsive to the issues and concerns
provided. Public institutions need to build for the long term and be good
stewards of public funds. An effective master plan will provide the
parameters for development into the future while also giving flexibility
should those parameters change over time. CRA has used these basic
ps•inciples as the basis of its master planning and design work in the public
realm.
