b. Request for Property Tax Refund on Registered Motor Vehicle <br />The Board considered one request for refund of property taxes an a motor vehicle. <br />Commissioner Gordon asked if this functional error would hold up legally. John Link <br />said that the County Attorney could talk about all the liabilities. <br />Commissioner Carey asked that the attorney do this in a memo later. <br />Chair Jacobs said that this is to rectify the County's own mistake that is not <br />specifically covered under North Carolina law, which the Board feels under obligation to correct. <br />Commissioner Gordon said that she hopes they are not opening a Pandora's box. <br />She asked how they could do it without setting a precedent. <br />Jahn Link said that this was a case where two years in a raw the same mistake was <br />made. The reason he made this recommendation is that it sends a message to the County and <br />to the State that in the year 2004, people expect mistakes to be rectified after the first year. <br />Commissioner Halkiotis would like to make it clear that the Board did not make the <br />mistake. <br />A motion was made by Commissioner Brown, seconded by Commissioner Carey to <br />approve the request far a refund of property taxes on a motor vehicle for $165.35. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br />c.
