WHEREAS, the Orange County Board of Commissioners enacted the Orange County Civil <br />Rights Ordinance on June 6, 1994, which affords to the residents of Orange <br />County the protections guaranteed by Title VIII and additionally encompasses the <br />protected classes of veteran status and age; and <br />WHEREAS, Orange County and the United States Department of Housing and Urban <br />Development, concerned residents and the housing industry are working to make <br />fair housing opportunities possible for everyone by encouraging others to abide <br />by the letter and the spirit of fair housing laws; and <br />WHEREAS, despite of the protections afforded by the Orange County Civil <br />Rights Ordinance and Title Vll! as amended, illegal housing discrimination still <br />occurs in our nation and in our county,' <br />WHEREAS, by supporting and promoting fair housing and equal opportunity, we are <br />contributing to the health of our County, State and Nation; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, do we, the Commissioners of Orange County, proclaim April 2004 as <br />FAIR HOUSING MONTH and commend this observance to all Orange County residents. <br />This the 13t" day of April, 2004. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br />e. National Library Week <br />The Board considered a proclamation to recognize the week of April 18 through 24, <br />2004 as National Library Week in Orange County and authorizing the Chair to sign. <br />Commissioner Gordon read the proclamation. <br />A motion was made by Commissioner Gordon, seconded by Commissioner Halkiotis <br />to recognize the week of April 18 through 24, 2004 as National Library Week in Orange County <br />as stated below and authorize the Chair to sign. <br />Proclamation <br />NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK <br />April 18-24, 2004 <br />WHEREAS, our nation's public libraries provide equity of access to library users nationwide no <br />matter their age, income and socioeconomic background; and <br />WHEREAS, libraries are changing and dynamic places and librarians are the ultimate search <br />engine, helping people of all ages find the information they need in print and online; and <br />
