He suggested looking <br />to see if there was ways to address the University population because it skews some of <br />the picture in terms of poverty and possibly in terms of suicide rates. <br />Maria Hitt said that the suicide rate is really spread out from teens to elders. She said <br />that she would check with Economic Development Director Dianne Reid. <br />Chair Jacobs said that Planning Director Craig Benedict also would be a good partner <br />for air quality. <br />Alice White suggested inviting Bill Rokfort to the County Commissioners' meeting where <br />Maria Hitt makes the presentation. He is a possible partner with UNC in the primary <br />care services. <br />Alan Rimer said that one of the recommendations from the environmental group was the <br />formation of a Water Resources position. He advocated for this individual to reside in <br />the Health Department. He said that as a Health Department, they have had a long <br />history of non-regulatory advocacy for these issues. He said that two years ago they <br />asked the Caunty to look at ways of taking the USGS data that was developed and <br />asking people to let them monitor their wells and approach it scientifically. He said that <br />he had asked the staff at their last board meeting to came back to the Board of Health <br />with a look at how the board could liaise with other boards to make some formal <br />connections.
