ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: May 15, 2012 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item No. '"'] - b <br />SUBJECT: Economic Development Advisory Board <br />DEPARTMENT: Economic Development PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): <br />1) Draft "Economic Development <br />Advisory Board Policies and <br />Procedures" <br />2) List of Potential Appointees for <br />Economic Development Advisory <br />Board <br />3) Potential Appointee Applications <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Steve Brantley, 919-245-2326 <br />PURPOSE: To review and approve the final draft `Economic Development Advisory Board <br />Policies and Procedures' and appoint ten (10) individuals for the initial reconstituted Economic <br />Development Advisory Board. <br />BACKGROUND: As provided in the January 24, 2012 status report on `Proposed Purpose, <br />Composition and Function of Orange County's Reformulated Economic Development Advisory <br />Board; Orange County Economic Development staff have been working to revise the structure <br />and function of an Economic Development Advisory Board to most effectively support the <br />Commissioners' vision for economic development in Orange County going forward. <br />The attached `Economic Development Advisory Board Policies and Procedures' document, and <br />the list of potential candidates for the Economic Development Advisory Board, were developed <br />to reflect the Board of Commissioners' recent efforts to reformulate an Advisory Board aligned <br />with the County's revamped Economic Development focus. <br />Input from a diverse group of individuals and groups invested in the future of economic <br />development in Orange County have been incorporated into both the proposed structure and <br />composition of the reformulated advisory board. The attached documents include feedback <br />from a variety of groups and individuals, including the Chambers of Commerce and <br />representatives from UNC. <br />Several potential advisory body structures were evaluated, and the attached `Economic <br />Development Advisory Board Policies and Procedure' and list of potential appointees reflect <br />staff's thinking for the most effective model for Orange County's Economic Development <br />program going forward. <br />
