Grief Awareness Week
The Board considered a proclamation designating November 2 through 8, 2003 as
"Grief Awareness Week" in Orange County and authorizing the Chair to sign the proclamation.
Helen Poole said that North Carolina is the first state to recognize Grief Awareness
Week. Over 72,000 people in North Carolina die each year. It affects at least 10-12 family
members, and this is not including friends, co-workers, etc. Grief is often overlooked. This is
giving them the opportunity to go into the community and share with people how they can deal
with their grief. She also distributed a handout with the activities listed for Hospice and Home
Care Month.
A motion was made by Commissioner Halkiotis, seconded by Commissioner Jacobs
to approve and authorize the Chair to sign the proclamation as stated below:
PROCLAMATION
GRIEF AWARENESS WEEK -November 2-8, 2003
