2012-2017 Orange County Master Aging Plan <br />Objective 2.4: Coordinate the navigation and transportation plans between the various <br />counties, towns, and other regional bodies that enable community mobility for older adults. <br />^ Stratepy 2.4.1: Form a partnership between Orange County government and the North Carolina <br />Department of Transportation (NCDOT) through which to advocate for changes to the physical <br />environment and infrastructure that will benefit older adults and others to be included in NCDOT's <br />and others' plans. <br />Indicator 2.4.ta: Regular meetings held with NCDOT to discuss feasibility of changes to <br />the physic4l environment including but not limited to: increased crosswalk time, improved <br />way-finding and other signage, maintained lane markings, modified traffic patterns to <br />allow multi-direction pedestrian crossing, and increased number of pedestrian islnnds. <br />I.ndicafor__.2,4._l._b: Inclusion of proposed changes in NCDOT and others' transportation <br />plans. <br />Indicator 2.4.1 c: Development of an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant <br />sidewalk infrastructure that connects surrounding properties and sidewalks in the areas <br />identified in assessments. <br />A~encies Responsible: Department on Aging; NCDOT; Orange County Planning <br />Department; Towns of Chapel Hill, Carrboro and Hillsborough <br />^ Strateqy 2.4.2: Pursue innovative solutions to the county's navigation and transportation needs, <br />accounting for older adults at all levels of functionality and income. <br />Indicator__2_.4_.2a: Meetings with county and regional planning and transit organizations <br />held to advocate for innovative and effective solutions, such as ride-sharing matching <br />service, vanpool, or Share-a-Ride; rura) cenfralized park and ride lots with shuttles; once- <br />a-week bus transport to rural arecs; or recreational group travel to destinations beyond <br />the Senior Centers, etc. <br />Agencies Responsible: Department on Aging, Orange County Planning Department, <br />Chapel Hill Transit, Triangle Transit <br />21 <br />
