2012-2017 Orange County Master Aging Plan <br />Goal 2: Enable older adults to age in their place of choice with <br />appropriate services and supports. <br />Objective 2.1: Orange County, with input from the towns of Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and <br />Hillsborough, will develop and adopt a housing plan for Orange County's increasing older <br />adult population that includes action steps and a plan for implementation and evaluation. <br />~ Strateqy 2.1.1: The County and the towns conduct a joint study that will identify the types of housing <br />that older adults want and may need in the future and the gaps that currently exist. <br />I.ndicator_2.l.la: Study completed and report provided. <br />Agencies Responsible: Orange Counfy Planning Department; Orange County Housing, <br />Human Rights and Community Development Department; Towns of Chapel Hill, Carrboro, <br />and Hillsborough <br />Objective 2.2: Preserve and increase the number of affordable housing options for low <br />and middle-income older adults. <br />^ Strategy 2.2.1: Evaluate existing regulations and policies and identify those that might prevent the <br />development of senior housing. <br />Indicator 2.2.1 a: Changes in policies that may prevent development of senior housing, <br />such as zoning, restricfions on Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU), school impcct fees, <br />expanding low-income eligibility. <br />Agencies Responsible: Orange County Planning Department; Orange County Housing, <br />Human Rights and Community Development Department; Towns of Chapel Nill, Carrboro, <br />and Hillsborough <br />^ Strategy 2.2.2: Consider new regulations and policies that will encourage developments to meet <br />older residents' housing needs. <br />Indicator 2.2.2a: Changes in policies, such as streamlining the land use review process for <br />housing options for older adults. <br />Agencies Responsible: Orange County Planning Department; Orange County Housing, <br />Human Rights and Community Development Department; Towns of Chapel Hill, Carrboro, <br />and Hillsborough <br />18 <br />
