The Department of Social Services has received notification from the State of additional <br />funds totaling $194,573 for child-care subsidies to low-income families. To date, <br />approximately 936 children and their families have benefited from this program this fiscal <br />year. These additional funds bring the current budget for this program to $3,172,454 for FY <br />2002-03. This budget amendment provides for the receipt of these additional State funds. <br />(See Attachmen# 1, column #1) <br />Health Department <br />2. The Health Department has received grant funds totaling $5,000 from UNC Hospitals to help <br />offset a portion of the staff costs in the Healthy Carolinians Program. Thi~, particular Health <br />Department program offers clients with alternatives for implementing health care strategies <br />promoting healthy lifestyles, improving health status and preventing premature death and <br />injury. This budget amendment provides for the receipt of these funds. (See Attachment 2, <br />Healthy Carolinians Program Grant Project Ordinance). ~ <br />
