APPROVED 213!2004 <br />MINUTES <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />PUBLIC HEARING ON ANIMAL SHELTER OPERATIONS <br />September 25, 2003 <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met for a Public Hearing on Animal Shelter <br />Operation on Thursday, September 25, 20Q3 at 7:30 p.m. at the Southern Human Services <br />Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. <br />COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chair Margaret Brown and Commissioners <br />Moses Carey, Jr., Stephen Halkiotis and Barry Jacobs <br />COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioner Alice Gordon <br />COUNTY ATTORNEY PRESENT: Geoffrey Gledhill, Sean Borhanian <br />COUNTY STAFF PRESENT: County Manager John M. Link, Jr., Assistant County <br />Managers Rod Visser and Gwen Harvey and Clerk to the Board Donna S. Baker {All other staff <br />members will be identified appropriately below) <br />NOTE: ALL DOCUMENTS REFERRED TO IN THESE MINUTES ARE IN THE <br />PERMANENT AGENDA FILE IN THE CLERK'S OFFICE <br />Assistant Manager Gwen Harvey welcomed everyone to the public hearing. <br />Gwen Harvey said that the presentation tonight was a summary of what is contained in the two <br />full reports from HSUS and the County staff. Both of these reports are available on the County <br />website. <br />Orientation & Overview- Gwen Harvey, Assistant County Manager: <br />Gwen Harvey said that on August 2$t" there was a joint meeting of the APS Board, the Board of <br />Health, and the Board of County Commissioners with a report from Kate Pullen, representing <br />the Humane Society of the United States.
