Commissioner Jacobs has volunteered to work on this group.
Commissioner Carey asked how the purple sheet is different than the original
abstract. Assistant County Manager Gwen Harvey said that the there is a section on page
three, which identifies the issues the staff heard when the Board discussed this on June 12th
during a budget work session.
Commissioner Jacobs said that he asked staff to include this section because he
thinks it was important to reflect that this Board wanted to be proactive and that it is not just the
response to other people's concerns.
Commissioner Halkiotis said that he is comfortable with Commissioner Jacobs going
forward.
Commissioner Carey added another question to the list -What do we tell citizens
when we build a school and use it for community purposes, like this one with the Carrboro
library at McDougle?
Commissioner Jacobs said that he would be sure there were minutes of the
meetings.
Chair Brown said that her thought was that the McDougle staff had concerns. She
suggested meeting with the SGC.
Commissioner Jacobs said that he does not know who the McDougle Partnership is.
Library Director Brenda Stephens said that the partnership includes the media
specialists at the elementary school and the middle school, the technology director, and the
principals.
Commissioner Jacobs suggested that someone on the SGC have a seat on the
committee, as Chair Brown suggested.
Commissioner Gordon made reference to the charge, review issues, and options
and read, "and provide recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners in a timeframe
that allows consideration and inclusion in the annual budget process." She suggested adding
"for Orange County and the Town of Carrboro." This would be reflected in the resolution as
follows: "Now Therefore Be it Resolved........thatellows consideration within the annual budget
process of Orange Caunty and the Town of Carrboro."
A motion was made by Commissioner Jacobs, seconded by Commissioner Carey to
approve and authorize the Chair to sign the resolution as stated below, including the addition
made by Commissioner Gordon:
RESOLUTION
To Establish a
Carrboro Library Workgroup
WHEREAS, the Orange County Library has partnered with McDougle Schools in Carrboro since
1996 for the shared use of public library space known as the Carrboro
Branch Library; and
