y-� 7- 1Z Ordinance#: 2012-13 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE UNIFIED DEVELOPMENT ORDINANCE OF ORANGE COUNTY WHEREAS, there is a need to review and, as necessary, revise existing land use regulations overtime, and WHEREAS, the Orange County Planning Director is authorized to initiate text amendments, and WHEREAS, on August 4, 2011 the State of North Carolina adopted Session Law 2011-408 modifying regulations governing the erection of political signs within the State highway system, and WHEREAS, the amendment is necessary to ensure local regulations are compliant with recent modifications to State law, and WHEREAS, the County has held the required public hearing and has found the proposed text amendment is consistent with the adopted Comprehensive Plan. BE IT ORDAINED by the Board of Commissioners of Orange County that the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) of Orange County is hereby amended as follows: RED = Proposed Text StFiket#reugh = Deleted Text Section 1. Section 6.12.5 (N) (8) Exempt Signs be amended as follows: (8) Political signs shall not be allewed within a street right ef way. For purposes of this seGtdon a street Fight of-way shall be the area area 15 feet frern the edge of pavernent whiGhever is be allowed within rights-of-way of the State highway ystem only in accordance with State law. i I I i Section 2. Section 6.12.6 (E) Prohibited Signs be amended as follows: (E) Signs, other than traffic, governmental, street name signs, political signs erected in accordance with State law, or other official governmental or public agency sign, shall not be permitted within any street right-of-way; Section 3. That this ordinance be placed in the book of published ordinances. Section 4. This ordinance is effective upon its adoption.
